Pittsburgh Steelers top offseason pickup: ILB Myles Jack (Released by Jacksonville Jaguars)

There was a falloff on the defense – in one important aspect – after a good start in 2020. And due to numerous factors when it came to the team’s front-seven, the Pittsburgh Steelers wound up giving up the most rushing yards per game in the league this past season.

One of the club’s first moves in 2022 was signing talented linebacker Myles Jack. The 2016 second-round pick from UCLA was released this offseason by the rebuilding Jacksonville Jaguars.

He led the club with 108 defensive stops, the third time in six NFL seasons he’s amassed at least 100 tackles.

The signing of Jack, a healthier Devin Bush, and the hiring of former Dolphins’ head coach Brian Flores – the club’s senior defensive assistant/linebackers coach – could add up to much better things for a unit now under the guidance of not only Tomlin but new coordinator Teryl Austin as well.

The Steelers are also hoping to be a lot healthier along the defensive line. A year ago, nose tackle Tyson Alualu missed 15 games. And end Stephon Tuitt (now retired) was out for the entire season.

A sturdier front-seven is essential in the rugged AFC North, where you had better be able to slow down the other team on the ground.
