NFL star #5: Daron Payne, DL, Washington Commanders

A name that makes the most sense to be moved at this point, Daron Payne is a premium player for the Commanders.

An elite run stuffer with the ability to get after the quarterback, he is a key figure in one of the best defensive lines in the league.

All of that star power is about to get expensive though, as the Commanders have benefited from their line playing on rookie deals. That will soon no longer be the case.

While a great player, Payne lacks the flash of some of his fellow teammates. Instead of letting him walk for the compensatory pick, Payne could be dealt for picks.

There should be a slew of teams that come calling as he is that good of a player. The Commanders won’t be able to pay everyone, so Payne seems like the odd man out.

Add in the Commanders selecting Phidarian Mathis in the second round of this past draft and the writing seems to be on the wall for Payne. Even if he plays out this season, it doesn’t seem likely that he is with the Commanders for long.

Payne is a premium player, so don’t be surprised to see Washington get quite a few top picks if they deal him.

While the NFL offseason has already been filled with big-time trades, there may still be more to come. Despite all being top names at their position, these five players could realistically be dealt by their current teams. Keep an eye out for more trade rumors once training camp opens.
