Denver Broncos: Trading Noah Fant
Sure, the Denver Broncos ended up with Russell Wilson in this trade which could help them chase another title, but they should have tried harder to keep Noah Fant. In three seasons with the Broncos, Fant was on the verge of stardom — and he has yet to have an elite quarterback to work with.
In 47 career games, Fant has 170 receptions for 1,905 yards and 10 touchdowns. Had he been able to work with Wilson this season, there’s a real chance he could have had the best season of his career.
Of course, none of us truly know what happened behind the scenes. Perhaps the Broncos tried to offer Albert Okwuegbunam instead with no success. But then again, the Browns were able to get Deshaun Watson without giving up a young star.
The Los Angeles Rams landed Matthew Stafford without giving up a young star. The Indianapolis Colts brought in Matt Ryan without getting a young star. Basically, everyone who changed quarterbacks recently found a way to do this while keeping their team intact, except Denver.
The good news for them is that Okwuegbunam was solid in 2021 with 33 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns. That means they have a talented player who can take his place, but they could end up regretting losing Fant all the same.
