Los Angeles Chargers: Not adding more WR help

Heading into the season, the Los Angeles Chargers are in a much better position than they were a year ago. Not only does Justin Herbert have another year of impressive play under his belt but their defense looks much stronger thanks to a bold trade they made with the Chicago Bears and a huge free agency landing.

Los Angeles was able to bring in EDGE Khalil Mack, which gives them an elite set of pass rushers with him lining up across from Joey Bosa. In a division where they will face Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, and Derek Carr twice per season, this will be huge for them.

As for their NFL free agency win, the Chargers added J.C. Jackson from the New England Patriots. One of the more feared cornerbacks in the game, Jackson has a nose for the ball and picked off 17 passes the past two seasons.

They still could have done more to maximize their chances in 2022. With Herbert still under his rookie contract — albeit not for much longer — Los Angeles should have gone all-in on offense as well.

While they did retain Mike Williams, they will have the same receiving corps again and actually took a step back at tight end going from Jared Cook to Gerald Everett.

They had the cap room to pick up at least one more receiver, which they might need as they try and keep pace with Denver and Kansas City this year.
