Minnesota Vikings: Trading back and helping divisional rival in the process (twice)

First-year general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah made some moves that could come back to hurt his Minnesota Vikings. First off, anytime you trade all the way back from No. 12 to 32, there’s going to be some criticism. That becomes even worse when you realize that move was with a divisional rival.

Minnesota sent their pick to the Detroit Lions, who promptly used that to bring in Jameson Williams from Alabama. This gave the Lions a true No. 1 wideout, who could become a problem for the Vikings for years to come.

As of that wasn’t enough, they did it again in Round 2. The 34th overall pick in the NFL Draft went to Minnesota in the Detroit trade but they again decided to help a divisional rival land a new receiver. This time, they traded with the Green Bay Packers, who wound up taking Christian Watson out of North Dakota State.

The Packers were being questioned for not taking a receiver to replace Davante Adams with either of their picks in Round 1, but the Vikings ended up helping them get another borderline first-round selection at No. 34.

After all the dust settled, the Vikings ended up with Lewis Cine and Andrew Booth, Jr. which will bolster their secondary but they could have landed a much more impactful player at No. 12 and not helped their rivals get even better.
