New York Giants: Running it back with Daniel Jones

Once again, the New York Giants are in a rebuilding mode. They moved on from head coach Joe Judge and general manager Dave Gettelman. Now, they have Joe Schoen calling the shots as GM with former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll as their head coach.

Daboll ended up being a hot name after he helped Josh Allen develop into one of the best young quarterbacks in the game and they’re now hoping he can help Daniel Jones figure things out in the NFL. The problem with this idea is that Jones is nowhere near as talented as Allen.

Sure, he’s mobile and can pick up chunks of yardage on the ground the way Allen can but his arm talent is nowhere near the same. He also doesn’t have the “it” factor that Allen displayed over the course of the past two seasons — and no offense to Daboll, but coaching isn’t why Allen does have that.

Jones, who entered the NFL in 2019, has yet to show any consistency — and in fact, he regressed in a big way over the past two seasons. After throwing for 24 touchdowns as a rookie, he has just 21 the past two years with 17 picks.

Chances are the Giants are banking on a rookie in 2023, but for the 2022 season, sticking with Jones simply isn’t a winning move.
