Philadelphia Eagles: Not improving the EDGE

The Philadelphia Eagles could have absolutely owned the 2022 NFL Draft, entering the offseason with three selections in the opening round. But they decided instead of stockpiling young talent they wanted to keep making moves and ended up with a nose tackle in Jordan Davis and a wide receiver who is ready to break the bank ASAP in A.J. Brown.

Both additions were good and will help the team but they didn’t really fix things. Sure, it improved them at wideout but there’s no guarantee they will be able to keep Brown and they’re likely not even going to have Davis starting right away as he splits time with Fletcher Cox — who they needed to move on from, but that’s another story.

With all that being said, the worst thing about the Eagles offseason is that they didn’t fix their pass rush on the edge. Last season, they had one defensive end who put up solid numbers when it came to rushing the quarterback, which was Josh Sweat who had 7.5 sacks.

Brandon Graham did miss the majority of the season so he might be back to help, but he’s also in his mid-30s, so relying on him doesn’t feel like a safe bet. There’s also Derek Barnett who seemed to have one foot out the door but was re-signed when they landed no one else.

It feels like instead of kicking the can down the road in their trade with New Orleans, the Eagles should have kept their picks and added a defensive end as well.
