Seattle Seahawks: Giving the fans Geno Smith vs. Drew Lock

For the past couple of offseasons, the rumors have swirled that Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks were headed for a split. In 2022, it finally happened as Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos in exchange for multiple draft picks as well as tight end Noah Fant and quarterback Drew Lock.

Then, they re-signed Geno Smith and decided that was good enough at the position. Now, fans of the franchise have to sit back and watch as the team parades Smith and Lock in a quarterback battle where no one wins.

Of course, Pete Carroll will point to Smith’s solid numbers in 2021. In relief of an injured Wilson, he completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 702 yards with five touchdowns and one pick. However, those numbers were far superior to anything he had done in his previous seven seasons, and at age 31, he will probably be closer to what we saw with the Jets, and Giants than his three-game stretch in Seattle.

Lock arguably has a better shot at becoming a consistent starter but only because he has youth on his side. As far as his play goes, he’s been average at best with a completion percentage of just 59.3 and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 25-to-20.

This year, several quarterbacks changed teams but the Seahawks were one of the franchises that regressed. And with their head coach over the age of 70, it’s not as if they should be all-in on a rebuild.
