Buffalo Bills: Inattention to the secondary in NFL free agency

They moved up for Kaiir Elam, which was a good selection, but that doesn’t forgive the fact that the Buffalo Bills did absolutely nothing in free agency to fix their secondary.

In fact, with the loss of Levi Wallace who signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, you could make the argument that they got worse — at least until Elam catches up to the speed of the NFL game.

We all saw in 2021, that their lack of depth at cornerback was their undoing. As good as Tre’Davious White is, when he went down with a torn ACL on Thanksgiving, the defense took a major step in the wrong direction.

Never was this more evident than when they couldn’t keep the Kansas City Chiefs from getting into field goal range with 13 seconds left after Josh Allen gave them a late lead.

Then, they showed it again when they couldn’t get a stop to get their offense the ball back in overtime and had to leave Kansas City in defeat.

Buffalo could end up with two solid starters as long as Elam develops into the player they hope he can be but behind him and White, they’re incredibly thin. And once again, they’re one injury away from this being the biggest weakness on the team.
