Cincinnati Bengals: Reaching on Cam Taylor-Britt

The Cincinnati Bengals had a great offseason, which made it really hard to pick out their “worst move.” In order to do so, we have to look at a decision they made that was good, but could have been better.

In the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Bengals selected Tennessee defensive back Cam Taylor-Britt, who could prove to be a great fit in their secondary. The problem is, they might have reached slightly for him — and could have gotten better value going elsewhere.

As it stands now, the Bengals will have Taylor-Britt playing behind Chidobe Awuzie, Eli Apple, Mike Hilton, and possibly even Tre Flowers (at least early on).  Instead of adding to a position where they could have waited until Round 3 — especially considering they took Dax Hill in Round 1 who will potentially play cornerback as well as safety — they might have done better to add someone such as James Cook who went to Buffalo at pick No. 62.

Cook would have been leaned on more during his rookie season than Taylor-Britt, and while they do have Joe Mixon who is still in his prime, he would have been a major upgrade over Samaje Perine.

The Super Bowl window is still open for the Bengals and adding another back with the ability to take over a game would have only made them more deadly.
