Chicago Bears 2023 mock draft, Round 1, 8th overall: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia

Many will complain that it was another defensive player that the Chicago Bears took. However, it would be wise to note that interior line players play as much a role in dominating the NFL as do quarterbacks and wide receivers. Plus, the story of one Jalen Carter is an intriguing tale.

Based out of Florida, Carter attended Apopka High School, the home of Hall of Famer Warren Sapp. Carter also plays the same position as Sapp, the 3-T defensive linemen.

That’s where the comparison ends. However, there is a lot to like from how Carter plays the game, even if the stat sheet doesn’t blow up.

Last season, Carter was part of a Georgia Bulldogs team that paved the way to a national championship against Alabama.

Carter even had a blocked field goal attempt in the game. 37 total tackles and three sacks in 12 games may not scream out much, but talent is talent, and that’s what the Bears need right now.

Additionally, their defensive scheme revolves around having a 3-T defensive tackle that can trample the run on his way to the quarterback.

Justin Jones is a fine player and is talented enough to be a running mate, but THE presence is missing, and by taking Carter, the Bears fill a need right away.
