Green Bay Packers top offseason pickup no. 2: ILB Quay Walker (Georgia)

During his first season as the team’s defensive coordinator, Joe Barry elevated the unit in many ways from its shaky showing in 2020. One area of improvement came in the form of takeaways.

The Packers forced 26 turnovers in 17 regular-season outings this past season, up from their 18 takeaways in 16 contests one year earlier.

Meanwhile, the University of Georgia had 15 players drafted in 2020. That’s the most by one school since the proceedings were reduced to seven rounds in 1994.

And Green Bay grabbed a pair of performers from the defending national champion’s defensive unit.

"“(Quay) Walker had to wait his turn at Georgia,” explained NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. “But he has become a well-schooled, instinctive linebacker ready for the NFL game. He has good size and clear eyes from the second level, with a talent for recognizing play design. He plays disciplined, team-oriented football but is unlikely to become a top-level playmaker as a pro. “His chase speed and body control are just average when ranging to tackle or covering in space. Walker is dependable and consistent and projects as a good backup with eventual starter potential at inside linebacker.”"

The former Bulldog played in all 13 games in 2021, finishing with 65 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three passes defensed, and a fumble recovery.
