NFL Free Agents: Washington Commanders should sign LB Anthony Barr

Last season, the Washington Commanders didn’t live up to expectations thanks to a combination of injuries and turmoil.

This season they’ll look to have a fresh start on a team with a ton of talent. Chase Young and Montez Sweat are two young edge rushers who lead the front seven.

In the middle, they have two of the best young defensive tackles in the league with Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen. What they are missing is a versatile linebacker that Ron Rivera can depend on.

Anthony Barr will come in and boos the linebacker corps. He’s not the same splashy player he was, but he has something left in the tank.

The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker had a solid season last year. He played 11 games where he totaled 72 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and five passes defended.

He’s familiar with the 4-3 defense since he played in it his entire career with the Minnesota Vikings. Jack Del Rio could use Barr off the edge or drop him into coverage.

Given how lackluster Jamin Davis’ short tenure has been, Barr could help him get better. The former first-round pick is only 29, and if he can stay healthy he could be a steal for a defense that can use his versatility.
