With the 151st pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Falcons were able to land a record-breaking running back and further bolster their running back room ahead of the season.

Former BYU Cougars running back Tyler Allgeier brings a strong run game and proven ground ability to an Atlanta Falcons team who hasn’t had a running back with a 1,000-yard season since 2016.

Last season, the Falcons finished among the bottom four teams in total team rushing attempts, rushing yards, and average yards per carry.

Now, the Falcons look to drastically improve their run game, re-signing breakout player Cordarrelle Patterson and bringing in veteran running back Damien Williams in free agency.

Along with that, he made a huge impact during his time at BYU, leaving the Cougars with the fifth-most rushing yards and second-most rushing touchdowns in school history.

The former walk-on also holds the BYU record for most rushing yards in a single season, racking up 1,606 during his final year with the Cougars. Allgeier paired his record-breaking amount of rushing yards with 23 touchdowns, leading FBS last season.

Despite playing at BYU all four years of his collegiate career, Allgeier played at linebacker during his second year, piling up 26 total tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble.

New Falcons running backs coach Michael Pitre told reporter and analyst Tori McElhaney that this could be one of the reasons he’s so productive on the offensive side of the ball.

"It’s all those different things that you try to help running backs understand who have never been on the other side of the ball. I think that is one of the reasons he was able to be as productive as he was, because he understood defenses and how they were going to try to stop him and stop their offense.Michael Pitre via Atlanta Falcons official website"

Along with his proven force in the run game, Allgeier is also a proven pass-catcher, hauling in 28 receptions for 199 yards, averaging over seven yards per reception.

Slotted to play alongside Cordarrelle Patterson and Damien Williams in a new-look Falcons running back room, Allgeier could surprise many people during his rookie season in Atlanta.
