2022 NFL: 3 biggest undrafted free agent steals

2022 NFL top UDFA no. 2: Abram Smith, RB, New Orleans Saints
Abram Smith was an unknown running back entering the 2021 season but then he broke out for the Baylor Bears. After spending time as a linebacker the prior year, Smith entered his senior season looking to prove he belongs in the NFL as a running back.
He did that by ripping off 1,601 yards with 12 touchdowns. Had he been able to put up numbers for his entire career, he surely would have been drafted. Having said that, he might not have been able to pick a better landing spot than with the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans has Alvin Kamara under contract but they love to use multiple backs. They were able to bring back Mark Ingram but he’s getting on in years, and there are really no other proven players that will keep Smith off the roster.
On top of that, Kamara is facing a possible six-game suspension for a violation of the personal conduct policy. That would open the door for Smith to get even more snaps early on in the season.
Should that happen, the 220-pounder could carve out a role for himself and the Saints will have no problem continuing to feed him the ball if he proves he can handle the load.
