The reigning NFC East champions lost their share of talent over the last few months. So what were the Dallas Cowboys three best pickups in 2022?

It is certainly worth noting that no team has won back-to-back NFC East titles since the Philadelphia Eagles turned the trick four consecutive years from 2001-04.

That’s the modern-day history that the Dallas Cowboys look to overcome. Of course, this is a team that hasn’t made back-to-back playoff appearances since 2006 and ’07.

A year ago, Mike McCarthy’s team led the league in scoring with 530 points. The Cowboys finished with a solid 12-5 record. But all that went to waste when the team couldn’t rally to beat the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs at AT&T Stadium

The club took a significant amount of hits in free agency this year and also wound up dealing away quality wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. So which three offseason additions were the reigning NFC East champions best?

Dallas Cowboys’ top offseason pickup no. 3: DE Dante Fowler Jr. (Atlanta Falcons)

A season ago, he was simply a beast when it came down to chasing down opposing quarterbacks. The Dallas Cowboys used the 12th overall selection in last April’s draft on Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons.

He responded by being named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year accolades and All-Pro honors. Parsons finished with 84 tackles, a team-best 13 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

He was certainly one reason the club led the NFL with 34 takeaways. But the Cowboys could use some more help getting after opposing quarterbacks after Randy Gregory left for Denver in free agency.

Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is more than familiar with what Dante Fowler Jr. can do. The latter comes off a season in which he totaled 21 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles with the Falcons.
