Dallas Cowboys top offseason pickup: T Tyler Smith (Tulsa)

The Dallas Cowboys still have one of the more formidable offensive lines in the league. And this unit bounced back this past year after a few shaky seasons.

After missing all but two games in 2020, left tackle Tyron Smith rebounded for 11 appearances and earned his eighth trip to the Pro Bowl. Right guard Zack Martin also rebounded from an injury-shortened season, made 16 starts, and was named All-Pro for the fifth time in eight years.

But left guard Connor Williams is now a member of the Miami Dolphins. Right tackle La’el Collins was a salary-cap casualty and he eventually signed with the defending AFC champions Cincinnati Bengals.

So the Cowboys once again turned to the first round of the NFL draft to add talent in the trenches.

During the club’s OTAs in June, rookie offensive lineman Tyler Smith had the opportunity to show his versatility and was impressive. He lined up at both tackle and guard in early June. The 6’5”, 332-pound performer from the University of Tulsa was the 24th overall pick in April. It will be not only interesting to see not only if he is an immediate starter but exactly where he will line up.
