Diontae Johnson trade destination no. 3: Los Angeles Chargers

I mean…why not?

The Los Angeles Chargers have shown this offseason that they are more than willing to make big, bold moves because they have an MVP-caliber quarterback on a rookie contract.

Not only that, but they have an MVP-caliber quarterback on a rookie contract for the next three years.

The Chargers could absolutely afford a trade for Diontae Johnson for a number of reasons.

1. They have perhaps the weakest WR3 situation in the league.

2. There is no reason the Chargers should be clinging to their draft picks.

3. Adding Johnson would make the Chargers’ other receivers borderline uncoverable.

There is no good reason not to try and make this type of move if you’re the Los Angeles Chargers. Adding Diontae Johnson would take a ton of pressure off of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen.

The Chargers don’t have to worry about Justin Herbert’s contract for the foreseeable future and trading for a player like Johnson could help take Herbert’s game to the next level.

Whatever that looks like.

This would also be a great situation for Johnson to step into after the retirement of Ben Roethlisberger.

With Roethlisberger out, the Steelers will be breaking in a new quarterback and that might not be great for Johnson’s eventual open-market value.

We know the Steelers have typically let receivers hit free agency throughout the team’s recent history and Johnson may be no different.

The Chargers would be a fascinating landing spot for him even though the target share would be insane.
