The NFL is always unpredictable, but what kind of crazy things could we see in the 2022 season? Which teams might shockingly finish in last place?

Crazy things happen in the NFL. It’s an unpredictable league and every year, there are teams that surpass expectations and teams that fail to meet them.

Sustained success in any professional sports league and in the NFL, it seems especially so unless your team has a quarterback that can be the tide raising all other boats in the harbor.

Not only is sustained success difficult, but sometimes you can go from being the top dog in your own division to being last place.

Just ask the Seattle Seahawks or even the Baltimore Ravens who had the best record in the league in 2019 and finished last place in the AFC North in 2021.

Which teams could shockingly fall to last place in 2022? I want to take a look at four intriguing candidates, but please — don’t take this as an official prediction. This is the time of the NFL offseason to think out loud.

Surprising potential last place NFL team no. 4: Arizona Cardinals

Scouting Report. NFC. NFC West. player. 32. Pick Analysis. Arizona Cardinals. 4

It feels like I’ve been dogging the Arizona Cardinals all offseason, but I think it’s for good reason.

The Cardinals have all of the ingredients for a potentially disastrous 2022 campaign ahead of them. You can almost just feel it boiling over.

  • Contract issue/Friction with the star QB
  • Lack of overall depth on the roster
  • Lost star pass rusher (Chandler Jones) and did not effectively replace him
  • Best offensive weapon suspended for 6 games to start the season

I don’t love or even really like the Cardinals’ secondary.

This team just doesn’t give me a ton of confidence this upcoming season but I will admit — of the teams on this list this one is probably the one I’m least confident will suffer a last-place finish.

They can thank the Seahawks for that.

But I do see a path where the Cardinals are at least in competition for a last-place finish in the NFC West.
