Carolina Panthers training camp battle no. 2: WR Playing Time

This is a little less specific because of the many ways that Matt Rhule and Ben McAdoo’s offense could utilize its wide receivers.

The wide receiver room is led by its recently paid star, D.J. Moore. While his snaps and time on the field appear to be pretty well set there are a few other WRs who could be competing for snaps and depth chart positioning.

Robby Anderson has always been a good deep threat with real speed. He had a down year in 2021 after hitting 1,000 yards in 2020. Could he be facing less playing time after a down year? Does a potential QB change allow for him to return to his previous success?

These questions might not take long to be answered in 2022 and it starts with the training camp battle that will take place within the wide receiver room in Spartanburg.

He will be competing with second-year man (there’s a trend here) Terrace Marshall Jr. and Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins. Marshall is coming off an underwhelming season. He will need to make a major step up to impact Anderson’s playing time and stave off Higgins.

Higgins was a solid player in his time with the Browns and it could be argued that their offensive philosophy held him back. These two present the biggest threat to Anderson’s playing time but the Panthers roster includes other potential threats in Andre Roberts and Brandon Zylstra, but that is only if they show more potential at the wide receiver position.

There are outside and slot snaps to be battled for this offseason. Keep your eyes on this battle because it could be a shock when someone comes out on top.
