The New York Giants are again working with a new staff and that could lead to them making some drastic moves in 2022 as they build their roster

Brian Daboll is the new boss in charge of the New York Giants —‚ and he’s going to have his work cut out for him. The previous front office and coaching staff left him and the new regime with a team that hasn’t tasted winning in several years.

The way they start to turn this around is by breeding competition. They have done this by adding several players in free agency that could push for a spot in 2022. With that being said, here are three members of the team that could be cut before Week 1.

New York Giants potential cut No. 3: Nick Gates, C

Nick Gates went from being an undrafted free agent from Nebraska to a starting center for the New York Giants. After just a couple of seasons in the league, Gates earned a two-year $6.825 million contract extension and then didn’t allow a sack in 2020.

Unfortunately, he then suffered a broken leg early in the 2021 season and was placed on IR. Now trying to get back on the field, Gates suddenly finds himself in stiff competition.

New York signed two other centers this offseason including former fourth-round pick Max Garcia and Jon Feliciano — another former fourth-round selection who happened to spend the past three seasons with Daboll in Buffalo.

The familiarity between him and the coach could be enough to keep Gates on the bench and then Garcia would be a more affordable reserve.
