New York Giants potential cut No. 1: Darius Slayton, WR
In his first two seasons with the Giants, Darius Slayton was an impressive player. A former fifth-round pick, he had 740 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie and followed that up with 751 yards and three touchdowns in year two.
Unfortunately, he went in the wrong direction in 2021 as he had just 26 receptions for 339 yards and two touchdowns on the season. He also had a personal low 44.8 percent catch rate.
Slayton was plagued by drops and is now considered a player on the fringe by Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
"“Slayton is entering the final season of his rookie deal, and there were at least some discussions about moving him last year and this offseason. With a new regime, his spot appears uncertain, especially after spending the spring working plenty with the second team, even with the top three wide receivers injured. It didn’t help that Slayton dropped some wide-open passes deep downfield during OTAs and minicamp. If the Giants’ wide receiving corps is healthy, they do have numbers.” — Jordan Raanan, ESPN"
New York doesn’t have an elite wide receiver corps by any means with Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney each being a disappointment in 2021. They do still have Sterline Shephard however and added Wan’Dale Robinson in the draft.
Again, it’s not the top group in the NFL but it could be enough for Slayton to just miss the cut.
