Steelers overrated player No. 2: Mitchell Trubisky, QB
Since 2004, Big Ben Roethlisberger has been under center for the Steelers but that changes in 2022. While they did draft Kenny Pickett in Round 1, they also have Mitchell Trubisky under contract.
Trubiksy has a solid record as a starter, going 29-21 in the regular season for the Chicago Bears from 2017 through 2020. On the flip-side, he was 0-2 in the postseason — and wasn’t exactly the reason they were winning.
A former No. 2 overall pick, Trubisky was erratic and would miss wide-open players often. Then after the Bears moved on, he joined the Buffalo Bills as a backup and suddenly, he became a potential starter by hardly playing all year.
Everyone seemed to forget his former coach seemed to do all he could to not have to play Trubisky. They also forgot the countless times he was criticized for whiffing in big moments. Instead, they look at his numbers alone and think he can get it done. And in all honesty, those numbers aren’t bad.
In four years, Trubisky completed 64 percent of his passes for 10,609 yards with a 64-to-37 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Having said that, the Bears did overpay for Nick Foles despite his struggles in Jacksonville as an attempt to upgrade over Trubisky. So the expectations should be lowered heading into the season.
