Possible NFL Draft bust no. 1: Daniel Jones, QB, New York Giants

QB. Daniel Jones. Scouting Report. Giants. 1. player. 31. Pick Analysis

  • 2019 NFL Draft
  • 1st round (6th overall)
  • 38 games
  • 62.8 completion percentage
  • 45 touchdowns
  • 29 interceptions
  • 36 fumbles

Although Daniel Jones has improved his fumbling issue tremendously compared to his rookie season (19 fumbles as a rookie, down to seven in 2021), he’s still been one of the most turnover-prone starting quarterbacks in the NFL since he came into the league in 2019.

Playing his college ball at Duke under David Cutcliffe, there were shades of the Manning brothers in Jones’ demeanor and playing style.

The New York Giants vastly over-drafted him based on his college production, but they were buying the tools and traits of Jones, who has a good arm and better athleticism than meets the eye.

Like many players who didn’t choose to be drafted high, Daniel Jones was thrust into an ugly situation with the New York Giants, who hired yet another new head coach in 2022 — Brian Daboll.

The addition of Daboll could be what saves Daniel Jones from the NFL Draft “bust” label in 2022 as Daboll was able to work wonders with Josh Allen in Buffalo.

Does that mean Daniel Jones is going to be the next Josh Allen?

No, it doesn’t. But a good offensive system can help a player tremendously, as could a healthy year for the players around Jones.

He has the best offensive line he’s ever had, he’s got a healthy arsenal of weapons, and he’s got the best coach and offensive scheme he’s ever had.

If anyone is in a great position to avoid the bust label this year, it’s Daniel Jones.
