Every year, football fans love to dissect and debate the ratings of players in the new Madden video game. Ja’Marr Chase may have been snubbed in Madden 23.

Is there anything football fans love more than a good debate over Madden video game player ratings? The latest Madden 23 ratings are starting to trickle out, and wide receivers were the first position group to have a top 10 revealed.

There is only room for 10 players on the list, but one particular star wideout was left off the list when he probably shouldn’t have been.

That receiver is Cincinnati Bengals standout Ja’Marr Chase.

You already know that the folks in charge of Madden 23 are stirring the pot intentionally with this because they included Amari Cooper on a list of the top 10 wide receivers in the NFL right now.

With all due respect to the new Cleveland Browns receiver, Cooper has probably never been a top 10 overall receiver in the NFL.

Certainly not over Ja’Marr Chase who, as of last year, was one of the most dominant receivers in the game. He averaged 18 yards per reception and started all 17 games for the Bengals, scoring 13 touchdowns and helping get Cincinnati to the Super Bowl.

It was undoubtedly one of the best rookie seasons in NFL history regardless of position, and Chase put himself in the discussion with Randy Moss’ 1998 season as arguably the best rookie year for a wide receiver in league history.

Chase himself is just chalking this up as extra motivation.

Unfortunately, this error in player rating gets even worse for the folks at Madden. Chase is not just outside of the top 10, but he’s actually kind of distantly outside of the top 10.

He’s just one overall better than Robert Woods, eh?

Again, this is nothing new for those in charge of the Madden ratings. Madden 23 ratings shouldn’t have been expected as anything but debatable.

These ratings change all the time so the initial ratings are to get some hype surrounding the game and attention from the actual players in the game, like Ja’Marr Chase in this case.

What makes Chase’s rookie season so much more incredible is the fact that he didn’t play at all in the pandemic-impacted 2020 season.

He dominated in 2019 with Joe Burrow at LSU, sat out for a year, then immediately came onto the scene and started dominating at the NFL level with Burrow in Cincinnati.

I’m sure this rating won’t affect sales for the Madden 23 team but it certainly is another notch on their infamous ratings belt.
