Bell cow running backs are few and far between, but there are a few running backs ready to step up and have a breakout 2022 NFL season.

Lost in all the noise and hype surrounding the quarterback and wide receiver position is running back. All off-season, we heard about the signal callers and the wide receivers that changed teams.

We have NFL media outlets reporting on the quarterbacks with pressure and expectations heading into the 2022 NFL regular season.

Well, there’s another group of players that carry their teams on their backs. We all know the big names like Derrick Henry, who is the identity of the Tennessee Titans offense.

Without him, Ryan Tannehill looked sub-par in the playoffs. Henry is coming off an injury and could show some signs of slowing down — don’t bet against him. Another stud was New Orleans Saints Alvin Kamara.

He was a dual-threat star with expectations of carrying his franchise, but he’s out of the league. Nick Chubb is another excellent back who will continue to dominate regardless of who plays QB.

Last season, Jonathan Taylor was the main reason the Indianapolis Colts were a borderline playoff team. In fact, one of the biggest mistakes was not putting the ball in his hands more when it counted.

Expect him to dominate once again with Matt Ryan as the signal caller. You won’t see Christian McCaffrey on this list either, given he’s shown how elite he is when healthy.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the team around him for a breakout season.

With that out of the way, it’s time to look at the backs ready to take off this season.
