The NFL offseason is (mercifully) nearing its end. The latest Baker Mayfield slander from Good Morning Football is over the line.

Good Morning Football has consistently been one of the best sports programs on television for the better part of the last five or so years. Unfortunately, the summer months drag along and football content creators begin to reach for storylines.

The latest from GMFB includes guest analyst Michael Robinson saying some pretty ridiculous things about new Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield

The Carolina Panthers recently acquired Baker Mayfield in a trade with the Cleveland Browns that sent a late pick to the Browns for the former Heisman winner and number one overall pick.

Regardless of how low your opinion is of Baker Mayfield, what Robinson said on GMFB is just downright wrong.

To say that Baker Mayfield is not currently one of the best 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL is certainly debatable.

He’s had a tough time in recent years even in an offense that should be favorable to his skill set there in Cleveland under Kevin Stefanski.

With that being said, there’s no way you could make a legitimate argument that Mayfield is potentially not within the top 64 “arms” in the NFL today.

That’s an outrageous claim and an outrageous new low for Baker Mayfield slander when the guy has almost become a meme to NFL fans.

Mayfield played through some injuries last year and wound up throwing 17 touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions with a completion percentage over 60 percent.

The year before that, he helped the Browns to the playoffs and a playoff win with 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.

There were way fewer people questioning his standing among the top 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL this time a year ago.

The NFL is a brutal business and the media can absolutely be brutal. Mayfield deserves criticism for the way he played at times last season and for the lack of consistency he’s shown as an NFL starter, but to say he’s possibly not even one of the top 64 players at his position in the league right now?

That’s downright preposterous.

Obviously, Good Morning Football has had rotating hosts and analysts over the years, even when Kay Adams and Nate Burleson were regulars on the show. But what made that show so great is that Adams and Burleson were enlightening with their takes.

They brought entertainment value along with great perspective and didn’t try to fool anyone into tuning into the show with such a blazing hot take that no one can take them seriously.

The show is undoubtedly in a state of transition right now but this take from Robinson is an absolute embarrassment to the program.

Every show or site or podcast is going to have some whiffs on takes. We all do. It’s part of being in the business that is football media.

Problems arise when you start making baseless claims like this that just make your outfit look bad. This comment from Robinson is a bad look for GMFB as well as the NFL Network.
