The Cleveland Browns are preparing themselves for the worst regarding their QB situation by bringing in first-round bust Josh Rosen for a workout.

The Cleveland Browns are preparing for the worst when it comes to the NFL potentially suspending quarterback Deshaun Watson.

According to multiple reports, the Browns are bringing in quarterbacks AJ McCarron and Josh Rosen for workouts to potentially take another arm to training camp.

It’s not like the Cleveland Browns are about to be caught off guard, either. They have been preparing this since they drew up a contract with Watson earlier this offseason.

How do we know this?

They gave Watson a base salary of $1.035 million in 2022 to minimize the amount of money he would lose in the event that he would be suspended, even for a full year.

Who knows if the NFL would have taken this into account when they were evaluating Watson’s situation off the field because obviously, suspending him games is one thing — taking away massive game checks is another.

Whatever happens with Watson, the Browns obviously feel like they need to get some additional help in the quarterback room, and the fact that they are looking at former first-round pick Josh Rosen is fascinating.

Rosen was thrown to the wolves his rookie season back in 2018 and he has seemingly never recovered.

He didn’t step into a good situation with the Cardinals that year, and Arizona clearly could tell that things weren’t going to get any better in year two.

Armed with the number one pick, they moved on from Rosen — who they selected in the top 10 — after just one season.

Shockingly, the Cardinals were able to extract a second-round pick for Rosen in 2019 out of the Miami Dolphins.

Rosen couldn’t win the Dolphins’ starting job and ended up playing in three games, throwing five interceptions for Miami in 2019.

Rosen landed with the 49ers in 2020 but never played, and then he landed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 where he did get a shot to get on the field.

He threw two interceptions on just 11 pass attempts.

It’s crazy to see how far Rosen has fallen since his UCLA days when he looked like he might be the most pro-ready QB in the entire 2018 NFL Draft class.

There were concerns at the time about Rosen’s true love for the game or intangibles, but nobody really questioned his overall ability to play the position well, especially over the long term.

The fact that he started floating around the league after just one season as a full-time starter is borderline mind-boggling.
