Houston Texans rookie wide receiver John Metchie announced he was diagnosed with leukemia, and the NFL and college world showed their passionate support.

On Sunday, Houston Texans rookie wide receiver John Metchie released a statement saying he was diagnosed with APL (Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia).

This means the 2nd round pick in this past draft will likely not be taking the field this season as he works to recover.

Thankfully, this form of leukemia is one of the easiest to recover from and is very curable, and Metchie made that clear in his statement. Also, the amount he received from the outside world was tremendous, including his college coach, Alabama’s Nick Saban.

Additionally, Metchie had support from the NFL community and fans of the game, wishing him well in his recovery and hoping to see him back on the field sooner than later.

The NFL world wishes Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie a speedy and safe recovery from his leukemia diagnosis.

Prior to arriving in the NFL, John Metchie was one of the key pieces of an Alabama Crimson Tide offense that put up historic numbers en route to a national championship victory over Ohio State.

Last year, a season that ended with a loss to Georgia in the championship game, Metchie had 96 catches for 1,142 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.

Unfortunately, an ACL tear cut his college career short, which may have led to his falling in the draft to the second round. Still, he beat the odds to make it into the league as a high draft choice, and we can be assured he will approach this challenge with the same motivation and work ethic.

If Coach Saban can give that kind of sentiment to a player like Metchie, then we need to take him at his word, as it is known that the former Miami Dolphins head coach has always had a soft spot for his former players.

Prayers to John Metchie, and we cannot wait to see him suit up and take the field in the NFL upon his return.
