The Kansas City Chiefs are ready to make another run at representing the AFC in the Super Bowl, and these three players could be key in getting them there.

The Kansas City Chiefs have their sights set on another AFC West title in 2022.

More than that, this team wants to return to the Super Bowl where they obviously have a great chance of winning thanks to Patrick Mahomes being under center.

Kansas City has consistently been an aggressive team when it comes to making roster upgrades under general manager Brett Veach, and that aggressiveness has only ramped up since Mahomes has emerged as a perennial MVP candidate.

This is a roster that experienced quite an overhaul in 2022 but some additions were made that could propel the Chiefs back into the Super Bowl this coming season.

Kansas City Chiefs player no. 1: Lonnie Johnson, cornerback

Over the course of the 2022 offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs continued to do what they have done a lot in Brett Veach’s tenure as general manager — take calculated risks on talented players who might be considered by some as reclamation projects.

The trade to acquire defensive back Lonnie Johnson from the Houston Texans was nothing out of the ordinary for Veach and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Johnson was a second round pick by the Houston Texans back in the 2019 NFL Draft and is coming off of one of the best years of his NFL career, at least statistically.

Johnson picked off three passes for Houston last year, the first three interceptions of his career. Not only that, but he allowed the lowest completion percentage of his career (57.9 percent) as well as the lowest QB rating into his coverage (76.6).

Most people — including Johnson — seem to believe that he will be better utilized in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense and for a team that needed additional depth and potentially starting players at cornerback, this was a key addition for basically nothing.
