Kansas City Chiefs key player no. 2: Leo Chenal, linebacker

Believe it or not, it wasn’t first-round pick George Karlaftis who had the most sacks last year among the Chiefs’ top few draft selections.

It was actually third-round pick Leo Chenal, a Wisconsin linebacker who had 8.0 sacks last year for the Badgers.

Karlaftis racked up 6.5 sacks over his last 14 games for the Boilermakers.

Chenal became quite the playmaker for the Wisconsin defense, attacking the line of scrimmage with the utmost confidence and making sure to make as many plays behind the line as possible.

He did a pretty good job of that.

Chenal had 18.5 tackles for loss last season in addition to his 8.0 sacks, as well as a pair of forced fumbles.

Although the Chiefs have other former high picks at linebacker like Willie Gay Jr. and Nick Bolton, I think Chenal is going to see the field quite a bit.

He probably isn’t going to be playing a traditional defensive end role, but he’s a pretty perfect fit for a Steve Spagnuolo defense that likes to send pressure and send it often.

As a blitzer, I think Chenal is going to be super useful for the Kansas City Chiefs in his rookie season and his productivity last year for Wisconsin is a clear indicator that he can be on the field for early downs as well as passing downs.

Just know that when this guy is on the field, he’s going to be in attack mode.
