Dallas Cowboys early standout no. 3: TJ Vasher, WR

The Dallas Cowboys made a salary cap-motivated trade this offseason, unloading wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Cooper’s departure plus the extended absence of a recovering Michael Gallup has provided opportunities for other receivers to step up and play bigger roles this coming season.

TJ Vasher is one of the players on the Dallas Cowboys roster right now vying for a roster spot and some playing time, and he’s the early front-runner for NFL catch of the year.

Vasher is listed at 6-foot-6, 215 pounds. The former Texas Tech star has an insane catch radius and you can see that on full display if you pause the video at the catch point.

There are plenty of receivers on the Cowboys’ roster, including newcomer KaVontae Turpin who was most recently a star in the USFL.

Even with all of the additions the Cowboys made at receiver, if a player like Vasher can continue to make plays at a high rate in training camp, how do you get rid of a guy like that?

He brings size to the table that no one else in the Cowboys’ receiver room has. He’s obviously going to give you a fascinating option in the red zone that not many defensive backs can match up with.

The question now is how quickly could we see a player like Vasher getting reps with the Cowboys’ top offensive unit?

If we start hearing more about Vasher catching passes from Dak Prescott, we’ll know that he’s made a significant impression on the Dallas coaching staff.
