Green Bay Packers breakout player no. 2: Juwann Winfree, WR

The Green Bay Packers went into training camp with an embarrassing group of wide receivers on paper, but what’s on paper is really only that.

Aaron Rodgers is the back-to-back MVP for a reason, and it’s not just because Davante Adams carried him to success.

Rodgers has been able to be one of the best, most accurate, most productive quarterbacks in the NFL over the majority of the past two decades because he’s the kind of QB that can elevate the play of everyone around him.

One player the Packers have liked for a couple of years now is former Denver Broncos sixth-round pick Juwann Winfree.

Aaron Rodgers himself had some praise for Winfree, who could be on the outside looking in at the Packers’ wide receiver group right now.

Winfree is a big-bodied receiver with speed who can win after the catch, but he’s not yet been able to translate his physical and athletic skills into long-term NFL success.

If he continues to play well at training camp, Rodgers’ voice will certainly be heard when it comes to assembling the roster at the wide receiver position and that could lead to the Packers keeping more than just six guys.

Especially given the fact that so many of these guys are young, quantity over proven quality might be the Packers’ best path to success and Winfree looks like he’s capable of being a hot hand at any point in time with Rodgers slinging the rock.
