The Miami Dolphins definitely tried to get Tom Brady and Sean Payton this offseason, and the NFL brought down a major penalty on them.

The Miami Dolphins don’t have Tom Brady as part of their organization, though not for lack of trying.

The NFL is bringing down a pretty heavy hammer on the Dolphins for apparently tampering not only with Tom Brady but also with retired coach Sean Payton.

According to multiple reports, the Dolphins are losing their 2023 1st-round pick and 2024 third-round pick.

This is pretty crazy.

The Dolphins already didn’t have a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft after the blockbuster Tyreek Hill trade.

They obviously have bought into Tua Tagovailoa as the franchise quarterback, and for their sake, they had better be right about Tua.

Now, the Dolphins won’t have an opportunity — barring an unforeseen trade — to make a move for a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft if that was any sort of fallback plan.

Tua Tagovailoa is now firmly the Plan A, along with new head coach Mike McDaniel.

Or maybe they are really Plan B.

It’s a brutal punishment to put yourself in “what if” world, but the idea that the Dolphins made a push for Tom Brady when he was “retired” and weren’t able to get any sort of deal done or at least have the talks without blatantly and obviously tampering is certainly one that could cause Dolphins fans to lose sleep at night.

The idea of Tom Brady and Sean Payton together in South Beach?

Certainly fun to think about on paper and seeing the fact that Brady brought a championship to the Bucs?

Dolphins fans probably would have loved to have seen their former arch-rival Tom Brady lead them to a championship.

Instead of that timeline, we’re living in one in which the Dolphins are being sued by Brian Flores and now they will be without two very valuable draft picks in the next couple of years.

Not exactly an enviable position, unless things can work out with Tua Tagovailoa and their new duo of speedy receivers with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
