Denver Broncos: Randy Gregory, EDGE

There was a bidding war for Randy Gregory this offseason and he originally was set to return to the Dallas Cowboys, who selected him in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Once Dallas decided to mess with the language in the deal, Gregory and his team backed out and he headed to the Denver Broncos.

Gregory landed a five-year, $70 million contract with $28 million guaranteed with the Broncos — which is almost identical to what he would have signed in Dallas. While this isn’t exactly top-tier pass-rushing money, it’s still a ton for a guy who is nearly 30 years of age and still banking on his potential.

Before the 2020 season, Gregory was questionable to even play in the league. he went through one suspension after another and played in just 28 games in his first five seasons. However, even after the suspensions stopped, he still hasn’t been a huge factor.

In 10 games in 2020, he had 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He followed that up with a career-high six sacks in 2021 but still had just 19 total tackles and missed five games due to injury.

Talent and athleticism have never been a question for Gregory, but durability and consistency have. That’s why it felt like a stretch to pay him so much and expect him to truly bring the pass rush to the next level.
