Los Angeles Chargers: Khalil Mack, EDGE

Again, a player can be very good — but still fall into the overrated category. In a list such as this, that’s even more likely when trying to find an overrated player on a team that’s actually very solid all the way around.

That happens to be the case with the Los Angeles Chargers, who just missed the playoffs a year ago. Led by quarterback Justin Herbert, the Chargers are a team on the rise and it feels as though they’re incredibly close to finally breaking out.

One reason it feels like this could be the year for that is the additions they made to their defense. Los Angeles not only landed the top cornerback in free agency in J.C. Jackson, but they also traded for defensive end Khalil Mack.

A six-time Pro Bowl selection and the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Mack has been a phenomenal player for eight seasons. However, his addition has some mentioning the Chargers as major threats to the Kansas City Chiefs this coming season.

That might be too much pressure to put on a 31-year-old pass rusher who is coming off foot surgery and hasn’t recorded double-digit sacks since 2018.

Again, Mack is a very good player but it feels like we need to see if he’s back to 100 percent before claiming this defense is fixed.
