Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus has put bold goals in his plan, including remodeling his office, but the goals will take a long time to achieve.

Every coach in the NFL has an aspiration to win the Super Bowl, and Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus is no different, but he’s got bigger plans.

NBC Sports and noted football columnist Peter King reports that inside Eberflus’ office sits the names of players whose jerseys have been retired by the Bears along with a particular area that currently is unoccupied.

It is reserved for, according to King and NBC Sports Chicago, two George Halas trophies, symbolic of the NFC Champions, and two Super Bowl trophies, symbolic of the champions of the NFL.

Wait, two spots? As in, two Super Bowl championships? This despite the fact that the Bears have only appeared in two as a franchise, one being a dominant performance back in 1985 and the other a torrential terror in Miami back in 2006?

Yes, indeed, and while it does sound a bit baffling at first, it’s not a reason to run to the keyboard and troll Eberflus and the franchise for dreaming that big.

As a matter of fact, several coaches throughout history have won at least two trophies, i.e., Walsh, Noll, Coughlin, Shula, Johnson, Shanahan, Harbaugh, and of course, Belichick.

Matt Eberflus has lofty goals for the Chicago Bears, but time will be required to see that vision through.

All of that said, it’s going to be a while before the Chicago Bears do anything of that magnitude. The franchise has not had much postseason success since the early 21st century. 2006 can be considered the lone exception, but even that team was flawed offensively.

Moreover, this roster has so many holes that will likely require at least 1-2 years of full reconstruction before the Bears can be instituted into any form of Super Bowl contention conversations.

Right now, the organization needs to look for certain types of players. Players that fit the mold both offensively and defensively, on the principles that Matt Eberflus and General Manager Ryan Poles have established.

Time and t e again, they have said that they want a tough, violent, and fast team on both sides. If anything, it’s eerily similar to how Jimmy Johnson ran his Dallas Cowboys in the early ’90s.

Granted, the Bears are not as talented as those guys and don’t have Hall of Famers, but the concept is the same, and it works in the modern NFL.

Matt Eberflus may have a goal and vision in mind, but this process will take time for it to come to fruition. Everyone has a plan until it’s time to adapt, and we have to wait and see how Chicago puts it all together or if we head back to Square One in a couple of years.
