Roquan Smith trade option no. 3: New York Giants

Pick Analysis. . . 3. Scouting Report. player. 31. New York Giants

Just like with the Houston Texans, the New York Giants are not exactly in a “contender” position at the moment.

That shouldn’t prevent them from potentially making a blockbuster deal for Roquan Smith.

After the 2022 NFL Draft, the Giants added multiple big-time rookies to the roster including Kayvon Thibodeaux off the edge.

New general manager Joe Schoen comes over from Buffalo where they heavily emphasized the off-ball linebacker position.

The Bills drafted Tremaine Edmunds in the first round and gave a big-money contract to Matt Milano.

With the Giants so far, Schoen has not had the perfect opportunity to add those kinds of playmakers to the roster at linebacker, but if Roquan Smith is available?

That could be a game-changer.

The Giants currently have Tae Crowder and Blake Martinez as their top off-ball linebackers. It’s safe to say they could upgrade at the position.

The Giants will have the second-most cap space in the NFL behind the Chicago Bears and just under $50 million. They can certainly afford Smith financially, the only issue here is, they really don’t have any “extra” draft capital.

Perhaps the Giants could get creative and throw a player in the trade to minimize the draft capital hit they would take. Darius Slayton could be on the block and the Bears need help at receiver.

One way or another, the Giants should be asking on the price here.
