NFC North: Minnesota Vikings

This one might not feel fair, but the Minnesota Vikings win by default in the NFC North. Right now, no one is expecting the Chicago Bears to be any good and while the Detroit Lions are supposed to get better this season, they’ve been terrible so that just means they’re not expected to be a complete failure.

There’s also the Green Bay Packers, who will always be in contention as long as Aaron Rodgers is under center. There’s a belief they will trend in the wrong direction on offense with Davante Adams but they do have a lot of talent including Christian Watson — not to mention two monsters at running back. On top of that, Matt LaFleur has built an insane defense.

So that leaves us with the Vikings who will again trot out everyone’s favorite punching bag at quarterback, Kirk Cousins. The veteran continues to rack up some impressive numbers but continues to be someone who is rumored to be on his way out year after year.

New head coach Kevin O’Connell was sold on him though, as was first-year general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

So why might they be overrated?

Minnesota is replacing a veteran coach who might have been rough around the edges, but Mike Zimmer did know how to coach a football team. His departure could lead to more struggles on defense and Cousins might not be on top of this playbook right out of the gates.

They should still be the No. 2 team in their division, but that’s also for the same reasons mentioned earlier in regards to their rivals.
