Houston Texans player to watch no. 1: Dameon Pierce, RB

At this point, I don’t think there’s any question about the fact that Houston Texans fans are rightfully hyped about Dameon Pierce.

A fourth-round pick out of Florida, Pierce had zero games of 100 or more rushing yards in college. Someday, someone’s going to ask Dan Mullen what’s up with that. Pierce has tremendous talent and a lot of NFL talent evaluators loved him coming out of Florida despite his lack of bell-cow type of work for the Gators. He put that talent on display in the first week of the preseason for Houston.

Hopefully, you had your fantasy football draft already, because Pierce’s ADP is about to skyrocket. The only player standing in Pierce’s way at the featured back role in Houston currently is Marlon Mack, who hasn’t done much over the last couple of seasons and was really just a free agency dart throw anyway. Not to minimize what Mack is capable of contributing this year, but it’s going to be tough for the Texans to keep their rookie sensation off the field.

Pierce has the potential to be a big-time NFL Draft steal for Nick Caserio and another young building block for this franchise. Although he didn’t have a single game of 100 yards rushing at Florida, it’s not out of the question that we could see him become a 1,000-yard back quickly at the NFL level.

He had a whopping 42 yards after contact in his preseason debut for the Texans and everyone is eager to see what he can do next.
