Teven Jenkins on the verge of winning a starting job for the Chicago Bears

Offensive lineman Teven Jenkins has had a roller coaster offseason. After the regime change, he struggled to make an impression. He did all he could, though. He lost weight so he could be not only quicker but also help his surgically repaired back.

During minicamps and OTAs, however, his play was not impressive to the coaches. They moved him from left tackle to right tackle. Ultimately, they demoted him to backup.

Apparently, that did not go over well with Jenkins. There were reports of him clashing with the coaches and his maturity came into question. Then there were reports that the Chicago Bears were fielding calls about possible trade scenarios.

Jenkins kept working, however. He kept trying to do what needed to be done. The coaches decided to try him out at right guard. Instead of complaining that he should be a tackle (especially a left tackle since that is the money position) he took it as a second chance to make an impression.

Jenkins took to the position well. He played there in last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks and did well. During practices, he has continually improved.

If Jenkins holds his own against the Browns, he likely wins the starting right guard spot. He’s come a long way from just a few months ago.
