The Tennessee Titans kick off their 2022 regular season with a home game against the New York Giants on September 11 in Nashville. The Titans are coming off a 12-win season in which they were crowned AFC South champions and lost in the Divisional round of the 2021 NFL Playoffs to the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Titans have had a long offseason to get healthy, bring in a new receiving corps and prepare for perhaps one final season with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry paired together in the Tennessee backfield. Let’s take a look at some keys for the Tennessee Titans and what needs to happen to ensure a Week 1 victory when they take on the Giants.

Tennessee Titans need to feed King Henry early and often

The New York Giants may be without their star rookie edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux for this game vs the Titans. Thibodeaux sustained an injury during a preseason game on Aug. 21 and had an initial recovery timeline of 3-4 weeks. He told reporters that he’s “day-to-day” right now and hopes to play in Week 1. You hate to see players go down with an injury, but his absence would make things a whole lot easier for the Titans, especially RB Derrick Henry.

Henry is going to be the best player on the field at Nissan Stadium on Sunday. They’ve got to give No. 22 a lot of opportunities to carry the ball and make plays. The former Heisman Trophy winner has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in three of the last four seasons and racked up 55 rushing touchdowns in that time span.

If Thibodeaux is playing, the Titans are going to have to get a little more creative with their blocking schemes to give Henry more room to operate.
