NFL Week 1: Three best bets to make on kickoff Sunday
Look for the Eagles to run up the score on an overhyped Lions team in NFL Week 1
- Eagles match up well with Lions
- Have recently dismantled bad teams
- Lions awful run defense
The exact lineup Lions should fear, a great offensive line, and a team that wants to use the run game. Could see it being a massacre, line is a bit fishy though, allowing the 5th most rushing yards and TDs allowed last year. With the Eagles being one of the teams I was the highest coming into the season on and the Lions being one of the lowest, it is no surprise that I am looking to fade the Lions in some way coming into this game. When the line first opened I managed to snag an Eagles -3 ticket, but with where the line is now I think the better approach to the game is the team total, as I project the Eagles to get their offense off to a good start against a poor Detroit defense.
While the evolution of Jalen Hurts will be crucial to the success of the Eagles in the long term, they should be able to instill their run-heavy attack against this Detroit team that allowed the fifth most rushing yards in the NFL last year. The Eagles ran the ball on 49.87% of plays last year, highest in the NFL. The strength of the Lions is their offensive line, but I still think the Eagles are going to be able to control the game on both sides of the ball, creating turnovers and short fields for Hurts and the offense.
A few times last year we saw the Eagles absolutely clobber bad teams, most notably the Lions in Week 8 and the Falcons in Week 1 with scores of 44-6 and 32-6 respectively. I could see a similar domination here, and therefore have to endorse betting on the Eagles in any way possible.
