3 NFL head coaches already on the hot seat after Week 1
By Randy Gurzi
It’s only one week into the 2022 NFL season but these three head coaches are already feeling the heat and need to improve in a hurry to keep their jobs
There are only 32 of these jobs in the entire world, which makes them very hard to come by — and even harder to keep. NFL head coaches are under a major microscope as everything that happens with their teams, whether good or bad, falls on their shoulders.
That’s why despite there only being one week played in the 2022 NFL Season, there are already several coaches who might be feeling the heat. Here are the three with the most sweat around their collars.

3. Arthur Smith, Atlanta Falcons
Arthur Smith had a good run as the offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans and turned that into a head coaching job with the Atlanta Falcons. He’s only in year two, but so far things haven’t gone according to plan.
In 2021, the Falcons were just 7-10 and really had no area of their game where they stood out as being good. They were 26th in the league in points scored and 29th in points surrendered. Honestly, it’s a surprise they won as many games as they did considering how low they ranked in these important categories.
So far this season, they’ve already got problems. After building an unexpected 26-10 lead over the New Orleans Saints, they surrendered 17 unanswered points and lost 27-26.
While any such defeat is disheartening, this team has had too many blown leads in the fourth quarter to simply look the other way. They need a coach who can finally get them to close out games, and Smith’s team was unable to do so in Week 1, which has his seat warming up quite a bit.
