6 NFL offensive rookies with the most to prove this season

Kenny Pickett was the only first-round QB
While he didn’t earn the starting job out of camp, the expectation is still for Kenny Pickett to become the primary starter for the Steelers sooner rather than later. In what became a huge free fall for all of the quarterbacks, Pickett was the only one to hear his name called on the first night of the draft when he went 20th overall.
While a quarterback will be given some time to develop, the NFL and the Steelers have big expectations for the rookie quarterback. Pittsburgh could have waited until the second or third round and still have secured one of the top prospects, but they opted to crown Pickett as the future of this franchise. He needs to live up to that billing.
While he won’t be seeing snaps right away, when he finally does see the field, he will need to look sharp. An occasional mistake is fine and expected, but Pickett has to look leaps and bounds better than the other options from this rookie class. If not, he will quickly see the bust label thrown his way.
The NFL welcomed their newest crop of rookies into the league, and while the season is still young, these offensive players have a lot riding on them. Bust labels are thrown out quickly, so if these players can’t look like capable players soon, the league will be quick to move on from them.
