In news revealed on Tuesday, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and his wife Gisele Bundchen have apparently hired divorce lawyers.  When Tom Brady retired earlier this year and after the 2021 season, it was clear that he had more left in the tank.

It was time for him to focus more on his family.  He had played in the NFL for over 20 years and his wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, certainly sacrificed quite a lot to continue watching his husband play in the NFL.  Brady unretired weeks later reportedly with his family unified in the decision, and now it appears as if the power couple might be headed towards a divorce.

The couple has been living in different places for the past couple of months, and it appears as if one or both of them have had enough.  It’s clear that Tom Brady still has a fiery passion for football, even as he approaches 50.

Brady and Bundchen have two children together, and Brady has an older child from a previous relationship.  If this eventually ends in a divorce, it’ll be interesting to see just how long Brady would then consider playing for.

It’s possible that Bundchen likely wanted him to stay retired back in March to focus his attention on his family, as again, Bundchen seemingly did the same while Brady was playing all the years they have been together.  The future divorce could mean that Tom Brady does want to continue playing beyond this year, and perhaps that drove his wife to her breaking point, although it’s never just one thing in situations like this.

As for the football implications, this could be excellent news for the Buccaneers, who don’t really have a clear succession plan in place.  If Tom Brady does play longer, he could continue playing in Tampa Bay, but could also entertain playing for other teams.

The 49ers and Dolphins have, at some point, been linked to Brady’s camp.  I do think both teams would easily entertain the idea of Brady playing for them if it got to that point.  Brady is a free agent after the 2022 NFL season.
