2023 NFL Mock Draft: C.J. Stroud back at No. 1

6. Las Vegas Raiders: Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina
Nate Hobbs has been a pleasant surprise for the Las Vegas Raiders but they could use another cornerback capable of playing on the outside. That’s their plan with Cam Smith, the South Carolina Gamecock who broke out with three picks and 11 pass defenses in 2021.
He has great length and at 6-foot-1 and 187-pounds, he’s big enough to go toe-to-toe with some of the top receivers in the game. He’s also proven himself against some of the best in the game while playing in the SEC.
7. Indianapolis Colts: Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia
It’s been a tough start to the season for the Indianapolis Colts. They had plenty of hope following a 9-8 season that they could improve after trading Carson Wentz away and bringing in Matt Ryan. However, they’re just 1-2-1 after four games, although their one win was a shocker against the Kansas City Chiefs.
A new quarterback would be tempting here given Ryan’s age but Frank Reich seems content to go after veterans, which is what he’s done the past few seasons. So if Ryan is one-and-done in Indy, they likely go this route again.
That leaves them free to take the best player available which is Jalen Carter from Georgia. The best defense in the nation last season, the Bulldogs sent plenty of defenders into the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and they’ll likely continue flooding it for the foreseeable future.
