Thursday night football left NFL fans unsatisfied. Offenses struggled, and field goals were exchanged as time dwindled off the play clock.

As we finish the work week, spectators can look forward to games that are more competitive. Developing storylines throughout the week set the stage for showdowns on the gridiron. Here are a few games to highlight in NFL Week 5.

Geno Smith’s performances on the gridiron this season are shocking. Seattle’s response to parting ways with Russell Wilson looks convincing, despite pre-season doubts. Leadership from No.7 made Seattle fans believers during the season of change. Smith’s 1,067 passing yards and six touchdowns rank 10th in both categories. A 72.4 quarterback rating ranks 5th in the league.

A stout New Orleans defense intends to disrupt Smith’s rhythm. Defending the pass has become a specialty for Ryan Nielson and Kris Richard’s squad. New Orleans has allowed 814 yards passing this season – ranked 9th best in the league. Their 11 total takeaways are the most in the NFL – five of which are interceptions.

Three consecutive losses have thrown the Saints off course. Week five is the right time to straighten the ship. Pete Carroll’s squad hasn’t had the best start to the season – and will be looking to start fresh. Both teams have the potential to sneak into the playoffs, making this matchup pivotal for both sidelines.
