New York Giants ruin Aaron Rodgers tea party in London premier
By Brian Miller
Aaron Rodgers made his first trip to London as a member of an NFL football team but it was the New York Giants and Daniel Jones who ruined his tea party.
Rodgers led the Packers to 20 offensive points but it was Daniel Jones who led his team to seven more. A late intentional safety by the Giants made it look closer than it was in the end.
For the Giants, it’s an incredible start to their 2022 season and the best start since 2009. The Giants, winning 27-22, are now 4-1 on the season in rookie head coach Brian Daboll’s first season as an NFL head coach.
The game progressed as many had expected it to. A tight game early as both teams looked to be a little drained by the cross-pond travel but, also as expected, the Packers looked to take control of the game and surged ahead 20 to 10 halftime lead and it appeared that the Packers were going to run away with it.
The second half proved a lot different for both the New York Giants and the Packers.
In the 2nd half, the Packers couldn’t move the ball consistently and were outscored 17-2 in the final two quarters with the two coming with 25 seconds left in the game on the aforementioned intentional safety.
On the final Packer drive, Aaron Rodgers looked ready to tie the game with the ball deep in New York territory but his final two passes from inside the five-yard line were batted down and the Giants began to celebrate.
Offensively, the New York Giants did enough to win with Saquon Barkley leading the rushing attack with 70 yards on the ground and 36 more through the air. He had one touchdown. Daniel Jones played well enough to win going 21/27 for just over 200 yards and no interceptions.
This win, however, can be attributed to a fantastic defensive effort that kept Aaron Rodgers from making plays and extending drives. The pressure was constant throughout the game and in the end, it worked.
Both teams entered the game 3-1 but only the New York Giants will travel back across the Atlantic with a 4-1 record.
