Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, seems to be speaking his mind, as he made quite the statement last week.  Perhaps the greatest player in NFL history, any time Tom Brady talks, people tend to listen.  The 2022 NFL season has gotten off to an interesting start after what was a historic offseason.

Teams that we expected to be elite are underwhelming, and teams that we weren’t really expecting to do much are exceeding expectations.  When talking to reporters last week, the seven-time Super Bowl champion made a shocking remark, saying “I think there’s a lot of bad football from what I watch… I watch a lot of bad football. Poor quality of football. That’s what I see.”

Tom Brady is not impressed with the quality of the NFL in 2022

The 45-year-old isn’t wrong in his assessment.  We’ve seen some very poor play this year.  Quarterbacks who were seen as good or elite have started off rocky.  Both Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan have thrown more interceptions than touchdowns.

Russell Wilson has not looked good after five weeks in Denver, and there is only one unbeaten team left, the Philadelphia Eagles.  Half of the 32 NFL teams have three wins, and only seven have two wins.  Eight teams have one or zero wins.

It’s been a sloppy start for sure, and I wonder why that is the case.  Perhaps since there was so much player movement this offseason, many of these teams are still adjusting to all of the new faces on the roster, or maybe it’s just the natural happenings of the NFL itself.

What also stands out to me is that outside of the Eagles, I’m not sure there’s another truly dominant team.  Even Tom Brady’s Buccaneers have some clear weaknesses.  This is a very interesting start to the season, and Tom Brady’s assessment appear to be exactly right.
